Alice Donnelly Dickie, 96, of Indiana, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Village.
Alice had a long and rewarding career as a teacher, spending 30 years in the profession, 28 of which were at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), where she taught in the Department of Health and Physical Education.
She also coached women’s golf and offered community golf classes in partnership with the local recreation department.
Alice had a lifelong love for sports, especially golf, which became her true passion.
She was a member of Indiana Country Club for many years and loved organizing the “Dickie Open,” a golf event that brought together family and friends for fun and friendly competition.
She also enjoyed playing in women’s amateur golf tournaments across Pennsylvania and was proud to represent the WPWGA team.
Family And Friends Mourn The Loss Of Alice Donnelly Dickie
Alice is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Donna D. Putt, and son-in-law Wallace, as well as her daughters-in-law, Linda and Barbara Dickie.
She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Stephanie (with her spouse Erin), Stephen (with Amber), Erika (with David), Candice (with Adam), Anthony (with Rachael), and Nicole (with Brett).
She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren, including Ryan, Brady, Lawson, Leighton, Abigail, Gabriella, Dominik, Andrew, Jack, Case, Carter, Dylan, and Lance.
Alice was reunited in peace with her husband, Don, who passed away in 1970.
She also joins her two sons, David and Gary, and her brothers and sister, Francis, Rose, Joseph, and Leo, who passed away before her.
A time for family and friends to come together and remember Alice will be held on Saturday, June 7, at Bowser Funeral Home in Homer City, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in Alice’s honor to Always B Smiling in Bridgeville, PA, or First Tee of Cleveland, an organization that helps young people through the game of golf.
After all, in recognition of her service and impact at IUP, she was honored with Professor Emerita status in 1995.

- In the 1960s, while raising three teenagers, she returned to college with the strong support of her husband and family.
- She earned her bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University in 1965.
- Then she went on to complete a master’s degree at West Virginia University in 1973.
