The education and sports communities in Florida are mourning the loss of a beloved mentor, coach, and principal, John Tuttle.

He passed away recently after serving as principal at both Bayside High School and Heritage High School, leaving behind a legacy of over 40 years in education.

He was a dedicated leader who influenced generations of students and athletes with his guidance, humor, and compassion.

His life and work touched thousands, as reflected in the heartfelt tributes that have poured in following the news of his passing.

John Tuttle Was A Guiding Force At Bayside And Heritage High

Mr. Tuttle’s journey as an educator took him through numerous roles from coach to administrator, leaving his mark at every level.

Many remember him as the principal of Bayside High School, and especially as a coach for the Class of 1986, where his leadership and genuine connection to students set him apart.

One former student shared, echoing the sentiment of many,

“So sad to hear about Mr. Tuttle. He was Bayside High principal and class of ‘86 coach.”

However, his most historic role came at Heritage High School, where he served as the school’s first-ever principal, guiding its formative years from 2009 to 2012 before his retirement.

He helped shape the identity and culture of the school from the ground up, earning respect and admiration from staff and students alike.

Another tribute read,

“Rest in Paradise, Principal John Tuttle. He was the OG principal for the very first graduating class at Heritage High School… He was kind enough to make an appearance at our 10-year reunion. Mr. Tuttle, you will be forever missed.”

John Tuttle Became A Beloved Coach And Mentor

Though he eventually stepped away from coaching, Mr. Tuttle’s presence on the field left lasting memories.

One former athlete wrote,

“RIP Coach Tuttle, you were one of my favorite coaches.”

Whether in the gym, on the football field, or walking the school halls, John Tuttle was known for his warmth, humor, and belief in his students.

His gift wasn’t just teaching or coaching, it was connecting.

A memorial service for John Tuttle will be held on Tuesday, July 22, at 2 PM, at the Melbourne Church of Christ, located at 810 Hollywood Blvd, West Melbourne, FL.

Family, friends, students, and colleagues are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate the life of a man who dedicated everything to education and service.

With more than four decades in education, he left an incredible mark that will continue to inspire for years to come.

His laughter, leadership, and legacy live on in every student he cheered for, every athlete he guided, and every school he helped shape.

Rest easy, Mr. Tuttle!

    Mr Tuttle was the GOAT of Brevard County Education system. I was fortunate to have worked at Bayside HS under the leadership of Mr. Tuttle. He was a genuinely good human being. May he rest peacefully in Gods good graces. Saying prayers for the family.
