Robert Fannin, a beloved figure in Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away on August 12, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center at the age of 93.
Robert “Bob” Fannin was Born on January 9, 1932, to John and Emma Fannin. He grew up in a close-knit family alongside his four sisters, Ruby, Ruth, Thelma, and Ernestine, and three brothers, Ralph, Jack, and Clyde.
Fannin’s Life was an Incredible Journey Filled with Service, Family, and Community
Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict, training troops with dedication.
His love for baseball shone through early on, as he played for Phelps High School and later for Pikeville Junior College.
Even during his military service, he continued to play, representing his post team with skill and passion.
After his military service, Robert built a meaningful career as a school teacher in Michigan and Kentucky, inspiring countless students with his warmth and wisdom.
Alongside his brother, he also ventured into the coal industry, co-operating with Fannin Coal Company, which became a key part of their family’s legacy in the region.
A devoted member of the Main Street Church of Christ in Pikeville, Robert’s faith was a guiding light in his life. His commitment to his community and church left a memorable mark on those around him.
Robert shared 70 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ruby Hamilton Fannin. Together, they raised four children, Kimbrely, Gregory, Robert, and Kelli, who brought them immense joy. His love extended to his grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength.

His niece, Michelle Stacy, shared a heartfelt tribute:
“Our last uncle from the Fannin side of the family has passed. A wonderful man from a wonderful family that left behind a lifetime of love, stories, and memories we’ll cherish forever.”

Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 15, 2026, at 12 PM at the same location, with Minister Josh Allen officiating.
