Skip Holtz congratulated his father for receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Skip was named head coach and general manager of the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL) on January 20, 2026.

Born on March 12, 1964, Louis Leo “Skip” Holtz Jr.’s father, Lou, and mother, Beth Barcus Holtz, met during high school and married on July 22, 1961. They were married for over 59 years.

Following his retirement from coaching, he worked as a TV college football analyst for CBS Sports in the 1990s and ESPN from 2005 until 2015.

On May 1, 2008, Holtz was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame. In 2026, Skip his father, Lou, for receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Donald Trump in the White House.

Beth took business classes at the University of Arkansas and founded The Tennis Hog Shop in Arkansas.

She was involved in charity work that tended to be behind the scenes and gave anonymously, with some of her work included volunteering at the No-One Dies Alone Program at the Orlando Regional Hospital.

In 1998, Beth and Lou , which promoted education, religion, and charity.

Lou and Beth resided in Lake Nona, Florida, where Beth was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church and the Lake Nona Ladies Bible Study Group.

Sadly, Beth Barcus passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, following complications from years of throat cancer treatment at the age of 82.

Skip Holtz met his wife, Jennifer Fitzgerald, while working at Florida State. They share two sons, Trey and Chad Fitzgerald Holtz, and one daughter, Hailey Elizabeth Holtz.
Holtz also co-hosts the annual spring golf tournament named the Drew Steele-Skip Holtz Golf Classic.
While at high school in Fayetteville, Skip played quarterback for the school’s football team, bringing moderate success to the program.
