A 15-year-old Jaylon Amari Davis was killed in a shooting on Sunday, July 20, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi.
The shooting took place around 6:15 p.m. at the corner of O’Bannon Drive and Sunset Drive, near a Texaco gas station on Medgar Evers Boulevard, just before 6:15 p.m.
According to Interim Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard, Jaylon passed away from a single gunshot wound at the scene.
The suspect in the shooting, 19-year-old Tyler White, turned himself in to the Jackson Police Department (JPD) after the incident.
Detective Tommie Brown confirmed that White was interviewed by investigators and charged with murder. He appeared in court on July 21, 2026, where his bond was set at $1 million.
Jaylon Amari Davis is survived by his mother, Sharhonda Laterece Davis, and his grandmother, Cleffone Davis.
Likewise, he also leaves behind his family members, including Taniya Davis, Tiana M. Davis, Tylen Davis, and more.
His mother, Sharhonda, penned her raw emotions in a poem in his memory on her Facebook, which reads:
“My Lion King. My Everything.”
Born with the heart of a lion and the soul of a king,
Jaylon Amari Davis was more than just a son
He was light.
He was laughter.
He was love in its purest form.
So we say your name, Jaylon Amari Davis,
not with finality, but with reverence.
We honor your life.
We carry your legacy.
We love you forever.
Rest easy, my Lion King.
You will never be forgotten.
You were always, always enough. 🦁👼🏽💛
“To know Jaylon was to know joy. To hug him was to feel home. To lose him is to lose breath… but his light is not lost,” Sharhonda wrote about Jaylon’s welcoming personality.
Jaylon was a proud member of the Blackhawk Youth Football and Cheer organization.
His coaches and peers remembered him as a standout athlete and a beloved member of the Blackhawk team.
One of his coaches, , shared a deeply emotional message about how heartbreaking it is to lose Jaylon, a bright and talented young man, to gun violence. Jaylon’s death has shown how serious and painful gun violence can be.
His family and friends will always think of him as a “Blackhawk for life,” and they’ll never forget him. Even though he’s no longer here, his memory will live on forever.

The community is rallying to support Jaylon’s family during this difficult time, with plans to collect donations to help give him a proper homecoming.
So far, the precise details surrounding Jaylon Amari Davis’s funeral services remain unknown.
