The community of Canastota, New York, is mourning the loss of Anthony A. Finocchiaro, a former standout wrestler, beloved son, and cherished friend, who passed away unexpectedly.
His passing has left family, friends, and former teammates in deep grief, but also united in remembering a life lived with passion.
Anthony Finocchiaro Had A Great High School And Collegiate Wrestling Career
Anthony Finocchiaro was a 2013–14 Honorable Mention All-Ivy League wrestler at Brown University, where he competed fiercely at 133 lbs.
During his sophomore season, he claimed a second-place finish at the East Stroudsburg Open, placed fourth at the Navy Classic, and earned two major decision wins in the first duals of the year.
He proudly represented Brown at the prestigious EIWA Championships.
Before college, he was a legendary force at Canastota Central High School, amassing 235 career victories, the school’s all-time record.
A four-time section champion, Anthony placed second and third at the New York State Tournament in his final two seasons and earned three NHSCA All-American honors.
Tributes Pour In For The Beloved Soul
Friends and teammates are heartbroken, but grateful for the memories they shared with Anthony.
One close friend wrote,
“My heart goes out to the family of my childhood brother Anthony Finocchiaro. You were always there for me through every wrestling adventure, every family gathering, and every step of growing up. You will forever be missed, loved, and cherished. Rest easy, brother. I love you.”

Likewise, his father, Peter M. Finocchiaro, a respected judge at Finocchiaro Law Firm, shared funeral details publicly and thanked supporters for their heartfelt messages.
He said,
“Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and memories of Anthony.”
Via FacebookThe wake will be held on Thursday, June 19th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 300 S Peterboro St., Canastota, NY.
A prayer service will take place Friday at 9:15 a.m., followed by the Mass and funeral at St. Agatha’s on N. Peterboro St. at 10:00 a.m. on June 20th.
Furthermore, a bereavement meal will be hosted at St. Agatha’s Rectory following the grave services.
Born and raised in Canastota, NY, Anthony was the son of Peter Finocchiaro and Mary Kay Golden of Syracuse.
He leaves behind an older brother, Peter, and a sister, Marybeth, along with a vast extended family of relatives, teammates, and friends who admired him.
To those who knew him, Anthony was a wrestler, a rock-solid friend, a source of laughter, and someone who gave his all, both on the mat and off.
