The Cazenovia, New York, community is grieving the loss of Ty Freyer, a 23-year-old native who passed away recently.
Ty was a beloved son, brother, athlete, and friend whose lively spirit left an everlasting mark on everyone he met.
While the exact cause of his passing has not been publicly shared, heartfelt tributes from those closest to him suggest he may have taken his own life, leaving a huge void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the entire Cazenovia community.
Ty Freyer, A Standout Multi-Sport Athlete, Was Born And Raised In Cazenovia
Ty Freyer was born and raised in Cazenovia, where he became a standout multi-sport athlete at Cazenovia High School.
. He played Boys Varsity Football, JV Football, Modified Football, Boys Varsity Lacrosse, and JV Basketball.
At 6 feet tall, Ty’s athletic build and dedication made him a force on the field and court.
His love for lacrosse continued at , where he played Men’s Lacrosse and earned an Associate degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science in May 2026.
Beyond sports, Ty was driven to serve others. , where he served as a Gunner’s Mate from 2026 to 2026.
His time in the Navy showcased his commitment to duty and discipline.
After his service, Ty explored various career paths, working as a Commission Sales Associate at World Financial Group for five months, then as a Warehouse Associate at E-J Electric Installation Co. for a year.
He also worked part-time as a server at Thousand Island Yacht Club and Coleman’s Authentic Irish Pub.
Most recently, Ty took on the role of General Manager at Thousand Island Club in 2026, where his leadership and warm personality shone.
In addition to his work and sports, he was passionate about playing golf, spending time with family and friends, and engaging in outdoor activities.

The Cazenovia community, along with his teammates and friends from Onondaga Community College, has come together to honor his memory.
Onondaga Lacrosse shared a touching tribute on social media, posting a photo of Ty with his jersey number #2 and the caption,
“We come in strangers, we leave brothers.” The words capture the deep bonds Ty formed with his teammates, who saw him not just as a player but as a brother.
Local photographer M Kinsella, known as mkinsella_photography on Instagram, shared a heartfelt message:
“Fly high, Ty! 💔 “You may not know now, but later you will understand. John 13:7” Ty Freyer. Thank you for allowing me to capture memories of your final season for your teammates…your brothers as well as your family and friends. We’ll never truly understand but know you’re missed by many. We pray you’re at peace now. Sending prayers to all who loved you, Ty.”

I will forever be grateful for the pure love we shared. You showed me how to genuinely be loved and taken care of; for that I am blessed. Thank you for setting the standard so high. I’ll cherish our memories for the rest of my life time. Rest easy. – your favorite girl.”
ViaAnjeli’s words show the deep influence Ty had on those closest to him. She also urged others to check in on their loved ones: “Please make sure your friends are okay. Do random check-ins. Don’t keep people blocked. Call your mom. Remember how many people love you and how many you’ll be leaving behind.”
