Former coach Lloyd M. Garcia passed away on July 11, 2026, at the age of 71, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

As there is no report indicating when he was diagnosed with cancer, it is known that he had been undergoing treatment in recent years.

In late 2026, his cancer diagnosis was publicly acknowledged by the Center High School community.

They held a on November 22, 2026, a significant moment of support for Coach Garcia.

The event was organized by John Noriega and Cameron King, with help from students, staff, and alumni.

Lloyd M. Garcia Dedicated Nearly Four Decades To Teaching And Coaching Baseball!

Born on June 20, 1954, to Tom A. Garcia and Loyda Garcia, he was a teacher and baseball coach at Center High School.

Even after his official retirement, he continued to serve as a substitute teacher and spent an additional ten years on the Center School Board.

Garcia’s commitment extended beyond education; he was actively involved with the Center Fire Department board, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Lodge.

Throughout his career, he earned numerous accolades, including the 1997 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education and induction into multiple halls of fame.

In 2015, the Center High School baseball field was renamed in his honor to celebrate his enduring legacy.

Garcia is remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for the deep love he had for his family.

One of Coach Lloyd M. Garcia’s well-wishers paid heartfelt tribute to him, saying:

Son, brother, cousin, husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and coach – these are just a few words that describe Lloyd Garcia. It is impossible to quantify the impact this man has had on this community, whether in the classroom or on the baseball field, now named after him. From tee ball to high school, Lloyd developed many fine baseball players. I never heard Lloyd curse, and I’m sure there were many times when it would have been justified. Only his wife and kids can truly comprehend the hours he gave to make Center a better place. He was a great example of what one should strive to be as an adult, and I know he had a positive impact on many youth in Center as they grew into adults themselves. His absence will be noticed here for a very long time, but fortunately, his impact on this community will be felt forever. May he rest in peace.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lillian Garcia; his children, Lloyd John () Garcia and Melissa (Isaac) Busolo; and five cherished grandchildren, , Kaleigha, Jessa, Isaac Isaiah, and Isabela Grace.

He also leaves behind several siblings and a large extended family.

Coach Garcia’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his teaching, coaching, and unwavering dedication to the Center community.

announced the funeral services for his father on Facebook, sharing the schedule and asking the community to join them in honoring his memory.

The vigil and rosary will be held on Thursday, July 17th, at 6 PM at St. Francis Jerome Catholic Church in Center.

The funeral Mass will take place on Friday, July 18th, at 10:00 AM at the Center Schools Gym.

In a heartfelt request, he asked everyone attending to wear royal blue and white in honor of his dad.
