Central Catholic HS Football Coach Floyd Halvorsen Passes Away, Leaving His Wife, Patricia, Of 63 Years!

Winston Churchill High School in Eugene, Oregon, named its football field “Floyd Halvorsen Field” in his honor following his retirement.

Floyd Halvorsen, beloved coach, teacher, and family member, passed away on May 31, 2026, at the age of 86.

Although the exact cause of Floyd Halvorsen’s passing remains unknown, he was surrounded by his family members, offering him love and comfort in his final moments.

Floyd Halvorsen Coached Football For Over Decades!

Born in Williston, ND, to parents William and Vivian Halvorsen, Floyd was raised in Butte, MT, one of five siblings.

He was a dedicated football coach and educator. He graduated from Carroll College and began his coaching career at Central Catholic High School in Portland, OR.

Later in 1972, he moved on to Churchill High School in Eugene, OR, where he served as head football coach and math teacher.

Over his 28-year tenure at Churchill, he mentored and motivated thousands of students, leaving a lasting legacy.

During his tenure, his teams won 176 games, 10 league titles, and one state championship. After his retirement in 1996, the Churchill football field was named after him.

Beyond this, Halvorsen had a deep love for the great outdoors. He was not just an occasional adventurer; he thrived in nature and enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, and camping with family and friends.

His dedication was honored when named its football field after him.

He was remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and mentor who impacted thousands of students and athletes throughout his career.

Halvorsen is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his children, Marie (Stuart), Tim, and Robyn (Jim). He is also remembered by his grandchildren, Isabella (Prem), Jacob, Nick, Cali, Carter, Kai, and his great-grandchild, Odin.

He was predeceased by his son Floyd William (Dana). His legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched as a coach, mentor, and educator.

His funeral mass was scheduled for July 9, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eugene.
