Paul Reynolds, originally from Moorpark, Athenry in County Galway, and living in Chicago, has passed away after a long and courageous fight with a brain tumor on 16 May.
Paul was deeply committed to growing the sport of hurling across North America.
He helped raise the game’s profile in a major U.S. city through his efforts and led his club to multiple championship appearances.
Paul Reynolds was a devoted supporter of the GAA and had a powerful impact on hurling in his adopted city of Chicago.
Family And Friends Mourn The Loss Of Paul Reynolds
Paul leaves behind his wife Lizzie, sons Eamonn and Ronan, and many loved ones in both Chicago and Ireland.
His club, Chicago St. Jarlath‘s, shared a heartfelt tribute to Paul, honoring his years of coaching and administrative service.
A true reflection of his dedication, a team he began mentoring from the U-8 level, is now set to compete in Ireland’s prestigious U-14 Féile tournament.
“…We would like to offer our deepest condolences to his wife Liz, his sons Eamonn and Ronan and all of the Reynolds family and friends both here and in Ireland. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers during this sad time.”
The Galway football community shared their sadness at the loss of Paul Reynolds, a proud Athenry native who played a major role in promoting Gaelic Games in Chicago for many years.
One of their most cherished memories was from last July, when he traveled back to Ireland with his son Eamonn.
Together, they visited Croke Park for the 2026 All-Ireland Final between Galway and Armagh.
Paul spent countless years supporting the Chicago GAA and USGAA, deeply involved in club development and youth programs.
He helped launch the Michael Cusacks Hurling Club with the goal of giving American players the chance to experience high-level hurling.
The club went on to win several North American titles.
