Ross Peters, a beloved coach, mentor, and lifelong supporter of the Sebastopol Football Netball Club (SFNC), has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, mentorship, and deep community connection.
His death has sparked an overwhelming outpouring of love, gratitude, and shared memories from those whose lives he touched both on and off the field.
The SFNC formally announced his passing with a heartfelt tribute, remembering Ross not only as a vital part of the club’s coaching history but also as a man who helped shape the character and confidence of countless young athletes.
Rising through the coaching ranks, Ross eventually led the club’s Under-18 team to a Premiership in 1996—an achievement that remains etched in club history.
The impact Ross had on his players and peers resonates strongly in the many tributes shared across social media.
Former players him as a “great mentor,” a “true gentleman,” and a “genuine coach of young men.”
One former player, Sims Mal Howard, reflected on how Ross’s encouragement led him to pursue a military career—even though it meant missing the 1996 flag.
Others, like Theo Zaxos and Azza Stewart, remembered him as the steady hand that guided them through their formative years in football.
The upcoming funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Peter Tobins Funeral Services, 1251 Doveton Street North, Invermay Park, VIC.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to BRICC, reflecting Ross’s commitment to community care.
While the burial will be private, friends, family, and former teammates are invited to share stories and celebrate Ross’s life at the Sebastopol Bowling Club’s Balcony Room following the funeral.
Ross’s influence extended far beyond the boundary lines. Community members fondly recalled chats with him at the fish shop, the pool, and during club events.
His warmth, humor, and unwavering belief in young people helped many rediscover a love for the game—and for life itself.
Chris, Cathy, and the entire Peters family have received an outpouring of condolences, with tributes pouring in from former teammates, colleagues, club supporters, and friends from all walks of life.
Ross’s presence at the club, his legendary 1996 coaching season, and his lifelong dedication to mentoring others will not be forgotten.
As the Sebastopol community comes together to honor his life, the spirit of Ross Peters will continue to live on—in every story shared, every game played, and every young person inspired by his example.
Rest in peace, Rosco. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
