Erin Spohr, wife of former Major League Baseball pitcher Daniel Serafini, has caused a stir during the ongoing Lake Tahoe murder trial. Despite acknowledging that her husband was having an affair, she has repeatedly sided with Serafini.
She even testified that she doesn’t believe he was involved in the brutal attack on her parents, Robert Gary Spohr and Wendy Wood, in their Lake Tahoe home on June 5, 2026.
This startling testimony has raised eyebrows, and many people have questions, as prosecutors suggest the attack may have been financially driven.
The Shocking Attack And The Aftermath
In June 2026, Gary, 70, and Wendy, 68, returned home after spending the day boating with their daughter, Erin, and her two young sons.
What followed was a cold and calculated attack by a masked man. Security footage captured a person entering the home, hours before the assault.
Later, Gary Spohr was shot and killed, while Wendy Wood was somehow alive but suffered life-altering trauma. Unfortunately, Wendy took her own life in 2026, two years after the attack.
Former MLB Pitcher is found guilty of the Murder of his in-laws. (Source: )It wasn’t until 2026 that Daniel Serafini and his lover, Samantha Scott, were arrested for their involvement in the crime.
Authorities and Sources claimed Serafini killed his in-laws to gain access to the family’s $11 million trust and additional assets. Despite these allegations, Erin has firmly stood by her husband, maintaining that she doesn’t believe the man seen in the surveillance footage is Serafini.
The Affair And Family Tensions
Erin’s testimony suggests a complex and troubled relationship between Serafini and her parents.
She admitted that Serafini had a sexual relationship with Samantha Scott, the family’s former nanny. However, Erin downplayed the affair, explaining that she and Serafini had an open relationship, which she didn’t find particularly upsetting.
Daniel’s girlfriend, Samantha Scott, was also involved in the case. (Source: )Despite this, Erin later learned through media reports that the affair had been more serious than she originally believed, as Serafini and Scott continued their relationship after his arrest. In court, Erin was dismissive, remarking, “Well, she ended up sleeping with my husband, so I guess so.”
Tensions within the family had been simmering for years. Erin described how her parents, particularly Wendy, had frequently “cut her off” emotionally, often sending cruel emails and taking financial control.
On the day of the attack, Wendy gave Erin a $90,000 check to support her dream of building an indoor horse-riding ring.
Erin testified that despite the ongoing conflict, she and Serafini regularly received money from her parents, who were wealthy real estate investors with millions in assets.
The Financial Motive And Legal Battle
Prosecutors have argued that Serafini’s motive for the killings was financial, claiming he wanted to inherit his in-laws’ wealth. Emails presented in court showed that Serafini had previously made threatening comments about Gary Spohr, raising further suspicion about his role in the attack.
Despite the considerable evidence, Erin has continued to defend her husband, stating that she doesn’t believe he was the shooter.
Throughout the trial, Erin’s loyalty to Serafini has been questioned, especially as the prosecution has painted him as the mastermind behind the murders.
Samantha Scott, who was arrested and later pleaded guilty to being an accessory, testified that she drove Serafini to Lake Tahoe on the day of the shooting.
She also revealed that Serafini had confessed to her about the killings, further complicating the case.
