Longboarder Caelan Burford, who finished with a sixth-place result at the NSSA Championship (National Scholastic Surfing Association championships), tragically passed away on April 12 at the age of 26.
His unexpected loss has left a void in the surf community and among those who admired his talent and passion.
Cole Burford expressed deep sorrow over his brother Caelan’s death, wishing they could share just one more moment, whether it be a laugh, a wave, a song, or a walk through the woods.
He longed for one final day to see Caelan’s smile again.
Caelan My brother, if only we could share one more laugh, one more wave, one more song, one more walk through the forest; steep and long. One last chance to see that big smile on your face. If only we had one more day.
Family And Friends Mourn The Loss Of Caelan Burford
He is deeply mourned by his loving parents, Jef and Judi Brownlee Burford, and by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Indialantic in Indialantic, Florida.
Scripture from Psalm 118:5-6 will be shared, expressing the family’s comfort and faith during this grief.
Further, Storm Portman remembered Caelan as the best Jim Carrey impersonator, the smoothest longboarder ever to ride, and the kindest soul the world didn’t quite deserve.
Storm imagined Caelan continuing to dance along the waves in heaven, singing and playing music with his signature silly parodies, and perhaps even cruising in his beloved VW again.
In his message to the Burford family, Cole, Judi, and Jef, Storm expressed his sorrow for their immense pain, knowing that Caelan’s absence will leave a void in their lives.
Caelan. You will always be the best Jim Carey impersonator. Smoothest long boarder to ever be, and kindest soul this world didn’t deserve. My heart is so heavy to hear the news of your passing. I’m not sure what other words to say outside of, God has you in his loving arms now, you’re safe with him, and can find peace. I pray in heaven you continue to dance along the waves, sing and play music at the top of your lungs with all the silly parodies that bring joy to your heart, and maybe even drive your VW again…
Similarly, John Sternagel fondly remembered how Caelan was always willing to help him sharpen his surfing skills or share his longboard, even when sacrificing his ride time.
John reassured the Burford family that his whole family is keeping them in their prayers and that they are just a call away.
With heartfelt gratitude, John thanked Caelan for all the surfing tips he had shared over the years. He ended with a touching farewell, saying, “See you soon, buddy.“
I’m beyond sad to hear the news. Caelan was such a light of joy and always made our surfing days more enjoyable! Even Dawn Patrol trips! He never batted an eye to help me sharpen my surfing abilities or share his log. Even when it took time away from him riding. My whole family is praying for you guys and just a call away.
RIP Kelly, thanks for all the pointers over the years!! See you soon buddy
Caelan will always be remembered, not just for his incredible surfing but also for the joy and warmth he brought into the lives of others.
