Kavan Markwood, a 20-year-old South Allegheny High School’s Class of 2026 football player, has been identified as the man who fell 21 feet over the Clemente Wall at PNC Park onto the right-field warning track during a Pirates vs. Cubs game.
He fell 21 feet from the front row of Section 142, over the Clemente Wall, during the Pirates-Cubs game while celebrating a key moment in the seventh inning when Andrew McCutchen hit a double that brought in go-ahead runs.
Witnesses said Kavan was excited as the Pirates were rallying, even taking off his shirt and pouring beer on himself before the play.
His fall occurred over a three-foot railing, and the drop matched the 21-foot height of the wall, which honors Roberto Clemente and his iconic jersey number.
The game was paused as emergency crews, including Pittsburgh police, EMS, team trainers, and PNC Park staff, quickly responded.
Kavan was placed on a backboard and taken off the field before being transported to Allegheny General Hospital.
He remains in critical condition following the fall.
