I thought they’re getting a Hall of Famer they’re getting an Olympia an Olympian and they’re getting a great coach i mean I didn’t know that she would be as great as she’s been but I felt that she would be a player coach a coach that knows players know where we needed to go and she was they were right
Rick again asked Alex what made Dawn a great coach. He said,
i think she’s probably you know I haven’t been in her huddles but I think she probably relates to her players she’s honest with them uh she tells them uh not what they want to know but what they need to know and that’s what that’s the the mark of a good coach you’ve got to be able to relate to your players i mean she comes from Philadelphia you know she didn’t grow up in uh you know with silver spoon in her mouth so she knows these young ladies and she knows what it takes and she applies it you know she applies it in her coaching she applies it uh in their games and you can’t ask for any more
They concluded the discussion by talking about Dawn’s legacy at USC. Alex said,
other than the the championships that she’s brought to state uh just the fact that she has been a person that was not just about basketball she was about uh she’s about what happens in the community what happens in this country and she speaks with a big voice so I I think that the legacy is going to be more than just basketball um and uh I’ve I’ve enjoyed enjoyed her and I think she’s still got a lot more to give us
