Former Coach David Malausky, Dies At 80, Leaving Behind His Wife Beverly Pleggenkuhle And Children, Jennifer And Matthew!

A resident of Manchester, Iowa, and a beloved coach and educator, David Malausky passed away at the age of 80 on June 9, 2026.

Malausky was a high school football and girls’ basketball coach who dedicated many years to mentoring young athletes.

He was not only a dedicated coach but also a school counselor, guiding students beyond the sports field.

David Malausky Dedicated Several Decades To Coaching Football And Girls’ Basketball!

Born on October 8, 1944, to parents William Malausky and Gertrude Zelonis, David Malausky was a respected educator, coach, and mentor from Manchester, Iowa.

He earned a football scholarship to Upper Iowa University and later obtained a master’s degree from Loras College.

Throughout his career, he guided students as both a high school football and girls’ basketball coach, as well as a dedicated school counselor.

His commitment to education and mentorship earned him the Iowa Counselor of the Year award in 1986.

After retiring, Malausky remained an active and engaged member of his community.

He continued to support local teams and stayed involved in mentoring young athletes and students.

Beyond his professional life, Dave was known for his warmth, humor, and storytelling.

He had a passion for fishing and was deeply devoted to his family. He married Beverly Pleggenkuhle on December 23, 1968, in Dubuque, Iowa.

Together, they raised two children, Jennifer Morarend and Matthew Malausky.

Jennifer lives in Fairbank, Iowa, with her husband, Nathan Morarend, while Matthew resides in Cherokee, Iowa.

Moreover, David was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, Adam Gleason, Ella Morarend, Mallon Malausky, and Mahren Malausky.

Even after retiring, he remained an enthusiastic supporter of his community and local teams.

His impact on students, athletes, and colleagues will be remembered for years to come.
