Sean Egan, a former Detroit Catholic Central swimmer and Michigan software engineer, passed away after bravely facing his third battle with cancer.
Sean Egan was a software engineer and a talented member of the team.
He graduated from Detroit Catholic Central in 2026 and was an All-State swimmer, competing with Club Wolverine in Ann Arbor and the Hartland Hurricanes Swim Club.

competed in regional and state-level championships and demonstrated his talent in events like the Catholic High School League meets and the Northwest Ohio Classic.
He earned All-State honors and was ranked 14th in DCC’s all-time swim standings for the 2019–2026 season.
Additionally, he was a key member of the DCC Swim & Dive Team and also swam with Club Wolverine in Ann Arbor and the Hartland Hurricanes Swim Club.
Sean Egan battled cancer three times with incredible strength and positivity.
These battles occurred over several years, likely starting before or during his high school years (2017–2026) and continuing into his time at Michigan State University. The third battle led to his passing.
While exact dates for each diagnosis are not provided, the three battles spanned roughly 5–6 years, based on his high school and college timeline (2017–2026).
The final battle was noted as particularly challenging, with significant medical expenses and community support via fundraising.

To honor his spirit, the DCC Swim Dive team is naming the “Unbreakable” Team Award after him, a reminder of how he inspired us all.
Moreover, a has also been set up to support his family, raising over $27,000 toward a $50,000 goal.
