The Philadelphia community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Anthony Lauria, a beloved son, brother, friend, and former high school football player, who passed away on June 24, 2026, at the age of 33.

Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Anthony was the devoted son of Elena (née D’Achino–Masci) and the late Robert Lauria, and the beloved younger brother of Nicholas Lauria, who preceded him in death.

His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his close-knit family, including his aunts and uncles, Terry (Ted) Munz, Kathleen Buonasorte, and Michele Hemingway, as well as his great-aunt and uncle, Marie Tavani and Nick Policella.

Furthermore, he is also remembered fondly by many loving cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and neighbors who shared in the moments that made up his vibrant life.

Anthony Lauria Lived A Life Full of Sports And Passion

Anthony, affectionately known by many as “Big Ant”, was known for his larger-than-life personality, genuine warmth, and fierce loyalty.

He grew up playing tackle football in the neighborhood parks, stick ball in the alleys, and basketball at 9th Street.

His love of sports, particularly football, was evident during his high school years, where he played with heart.

He attended the Community College of Philadelphia and remained rooted in his hometown, where he forged numerous friendships and created lasting memories.

However, beyond athletics, Anthony was renowned for his distinctive passion for collecting sneakers.

What began as a hobby quickly became a meaningful part of his identity, one that connected him to a wider community of enthusiasts and collectors.

Friends And Mourns The Loss Of A Beloved Soul

Anthony’s passing is particularly poignant for those who knew how deeply he missed his late brother Nicholas.

In a touching tribute, a close friend wrote:

“Last time I was home, we had such a big heart-to-heart. All you wanted was to talk to your brother again. Even though I’m going to miss the shit out of you, I’m just happy you get to be with him now.”

Another friend shared:

“Lots of memories with Big Ant growing up — Call of Duty, wiffle ball, stick ball, basketball at 9th Street… the old neighborhood’s gonna miss you, buddy. Prayers to your family and all your friends.”

Family, friends, and community members are invited to attend a memorial gathering to celebrate Anthony’s life, which will be held on Sunday, August 3rd at Baldi Funeral Home.

Though Anthony’s physical presence is gone, his memory will remain alive in the voices of those who speak his name.

In the words of one of his childhood friends:

“I’ll never forget you, Ant. I love you, baba.”
