Coach Bob DeMayo, a beloved former baseball head coach, passed away in July 2026, leaving a legacy deeply etched into the heart of Connecticut high school athletics.

Bob DeMayo Was The Winningest High School Baseball Coach In Connecticut History!

Coach Bob DeMayo was one of the greatest high school baseball coaches in Connecticut.

He led the North Haven High School team from 1958 until . During that time, he won 937 games, more than any other coach in the state.

His teams also won five state championships, in addition to numerous league titles.

Before coaching, he played baseball at Notre Dame-West Haven and Fordham University, and even spent some time in the minor leagues with the Baltimore Orioles.

Coach DeMayo wasn’t just known for winning; he was respected for treating people fairly and helping young athletes grow.

In a famous moment from 1992, he stood up for a talented player from another school, demonstrating his high regard for sportsmanship.

His players saw him as a role model, and many still talk about how he helped shape their lives.

The CIAC honored Coach Bob DeMayo by dedicating the 2026 Baseball State Championships to him in his memory after his passing.
