Greggory Richard Whitcomb was a beloved former collegiate athlete and respected tax professional from Pennsylvania, who sadly passed away on June 23, 2026, at the age of 32.
Although the cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed, his loss has deeply saddened the Shippensburg community and all who knew him.
Later reports suggested that his death may have been related to a head injury, though no official sources have confirmed this.
Greggory Richard Whitcomb Served As Team Captain For Two Years!
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Rick and Jan Whitcomb, was a beloved former athlete and coach who left a lasting impact on the Shippensburg University community.
He attended Northern York High School, where he earned four varsity letters while playing for the Polar Bears under the guidance of head coach Mike Russ.
He was selected as a team MVP and served as a team captain. He was also named a Mid Penn First Team All-Star.
In addition to soccer, he competed at the club level with the LDC City Islanders, under the guidance of coach Mike Lamarca.
He played four full seasons for the Shippensburg University men’s soccer team, from 2011 (freshman year) through 2014 (senior year).
Throughout his career, he appeared in 54 matches, serving as a two-time captain and earning All‑PSAC Second Team honors during his junior year in 2013.
He graduated magna cum laude in 2016 with a double major in accounting and finance, earning All-PSAC honors as well as Capital One Academic All-District recognition.
A standout defender for the university’s men’s soccer team, he made 51 starts and served as a two-year team captain.
While developing a professional career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and senior tax accountant, he remained deeply involved with the Shippensburg University men’s soccer program.
Beyond the field, Gregg was a campus leader, serving as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and participating in Beta Gamma Sigma and the Apple Leadership Team.
Following graduation, he returned as a volunteer assistant coach for more than six seasons.
He helped with recruiting and mentoring players while working professionally as a CPA and senior tax accountant.
The world is mourning the loss of Greggory Richard Whitcomb with heartfelt tributes.
Shippensburg University’s men’s soccer program and alumni have expressed their profound sorrow via social media.
A memorial service was held on July 19, 2026, at the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church.
