Bruce graduated from Athol High School in 1958 and later attended Paul Smiths College, where he became a member of the ski team.

Former Saranac Lake High School coach Bruce P. Colon tragically passed away on Saturday.

Bruce P. Colon was born on August 17, 1940, in Athol, Massachusetts, to Katherine P. and Percy “Bill” Colon.

He graduated from Athol High School in 1958 and later attended Paul Smiths College, where he became a member of the ski team.

Colon served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964 and earned his bachelor of science from the University of New Hampshire in 1967.

He to teach and coach football, golf, and alpine skiing at Saranac Lake High School.

From 1968 to 1977, he served as assistant headmaster at Northwood School in Lake Placid, where he led the history department and coached baseball, football, golf, and alpine skiing.

Bruce was appointed Women’s Alpine Director for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in 1977.

In 2003, he was honored with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Chairman’s Special Recognition “Tom Reynolds Award for Lifetime Achievement in Coaching.”

Bruce P. Colon of Lake Placid took his last breath on Saturday, May 24, 2026, at 84. However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.

Close ones and relatives have poured their heartfelt condolences and sent prayers to Bruce’s family to stay strong in this heartbreaking moment.

According to his family, a will be held later this summer.

Bruce P. Colon Was In A Relationship With Carol Nevulis After His Divorce With His Ex-Wife, Nancy Colon

Saranac Lake High School coach Bruce P. Colon married Nancy Colon of Lake Placid. Their exact wedding date has not been mentioned.

However, Bruce and Nancy divorced after several years of marriage. Following the separation, Bruce started dating Carol Nevulis, a general surgery physician assistant, in 2005.

Bruce and his ex-wife, Nancy, were blessed with four children: Laurie Woods of Fort Lauderdale, Florida;  of Waterbury, Vermont; Lisa Holes of Boise, Idaho; and Eric Colon of Silt.

Laurie married Johnny Woods, Clarke married Elizabeth, and Lisa married Shawn Holes.

In addition, Bruce is survived by his eight grandchildren, Eliza True, William Holes, Logan Holes, Mazie Holes, Heath Colon, Davis Colon, Levi Colon, and Claire Colon.

They are currently mourning the tragic death of their supportive father and grandfather, Bruce P. Colon.

  • Bruce’s brother, Frazier P. Colon, graduated from Athol High School in 1952, Norwich University with a BSME in 1956, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with an MSME in 1968. Tragically, he passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Bruce was an influential volunteer in championing youth sports in the Lake Placid community, serving as a Little League baseball coach, area golf instructor, and member of the Lake Placid Sports Council.
  • One of Bruce’s lasting legacies is as a founder of the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF). Since its inception in 1973, the Whiteface Alpine Training Center has become a nationally recognized program.
