Former Strength Coach Charlie Packman, 75, Passed Away , Leaving His Family And Community Devastated!

Charlie Packman passed away on March 15, 2026, at the age of 75 in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, due to complications from a heart and kidney transplant.

He had undergone a heart attack in 2012, which led to the need for transplants.

Despite these health challenges, he continued his work in personal training and fitness.

Charlie Packman Worked With Professional Athletes And Consulted For The Vikings And Eagles!

Born on January 17, 1950, in Philadelphia, Charlie Packman, aka Charles John Packman, had a remarkable career in strength training and personal fitness.

Growing up in Chestnut Hill, he started lifting weights in middle school. During his summers, Charlie Packman lifted weights behind the baseball dugout at Camp Susquehannock in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

He was a gym owner, a Nautilus manager, and the first full-time strength coach at the University of Pennsylvania, overseeing training for 28 varsity teams.

His high-intensity training program focused on building strength while preventing injuries, a philosophy he carried throughout his career.

He consulted with professional athletes, including Franco Harris, and worked with teams like the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Additionally, he trained national title-winning bodybuilders and was deeply involved in personal training at his gym, Charlie Packman Fitness, in Ambler, Pennsylvania.

Regarding his education, Charlie studied anthropology, sociology, and religion at Lafayette College.

He had a strong athletic background, playing middle linebacker and basketball in high school and club play.

Charlie Packman, also known as “Cha,” “The Mighty Cha,” “Chaz Packman,” and “King of the Tuchux,” was passionate about Native American cultures and took part in various festivals and ceremonies.

Beyond his work as a trainer and coach, Charlie had a profound love for animals, particularly horses and cats.

His dedication led him to volunteer at Main Line Animal Rescue, where he worked to support and protect animals in need.

Packman’s in the hearts of his family and the entire community.

His impact on the fitness world, his mentorship to athletes, and his dedication to strength training will be remembered forever.

Charlie’s friends , remembering him as a loyal and supportive friend, saying:

When I moved to Philly 15 years ago, I trained with Charlie. He was the first person who made me feel at home in Blue Bell. I will always have fond memories of him. I still use his philosophy of working your muscles to fatigue vs multiple reps. Rest in Peace, Charlie! 

A celebration of his life will be held on May 31, 2026, at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia.

In his memory, donations can be made to Main Line Animal Rescue.
