Kenneth Maurice Kellum, a respected physician, former high school soccer player, and cherished member of the Tupelo community, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2026, at the age of 55.
Born on August 11, 1969, in Tupelo to William C. “Bill” Kellum Sr. and Maurice Lucas Kellum, Ken was known from a young age for his brilliance both on the soccer field and in the classroom.
A 1987 graduate of Tupelo High School, he was widely admired for his exceptional athleticism and talent in soccer.
Ken Kellum Lived A Life Of Academic And Medical Excellence
After high school, Ken earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Millsaps College in 1991.
He then followed his passion for medicine, earning his MD from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1996.
Continuing a family legacy, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, just like his father and brother before him.
He further specialized in Nephrology through a fellowship at LSU Medical Center.
For 17 years, Dr. Kellum served patients at Nephrology and Hypertension Associates, where he became known not only for his medical expertise but for the genuine relationships he built with those in his care.
He loved hearing people’s stories, always treating his patients with compassion and dignity.
Ken Kellum Was A Dedicated Husband And Father
Ken Kellum is survived by his wife and children, Hannah Lawrence (Lucas) and Caleb Kellum.
He married Laura Riemer, his best friend and love of his life, on August 11, 1995.
The couple celebrated nearly three decades of marriage, filled with love, faith, and family.
He was a dedicated member of West Main Church of Christ, where he actively participated in mission trips to Honduras and Russia.
After retiring from medicine, Ken developed a new passion for pottery. What started as a personal interest quickly became another way for him to serve others.
He created and donated numerous handcrafted pieces, often through community programs such as Fresh Farm.
His work supported local initiatives, including The Shine Foundation and El Centro, and his workshops became a source of joy and connection for many.
Ken was also known for his love of fly fishing, running, and cheering on his children in all of their pursuits.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the West Main Church of Christ Family Center, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
