For over 40 years, he was a beloved coach of football, baseball, and, in particular, the girls' basketball team.

Kevin Scott Mitchell, a proud 1977 graduate of Sylvania Northview High School, passed away on Monday.

Born on May 25, 1959, in Rossford, Ohio, Kevin was a gifted three-sport athlete who competed in football, basketball, and baseball.

He continued his at the University of Toledo, where he played football and earned a Bachelor of Education degree.

For over 40 years, he was a beloved coach of football, baseball, and, in particular, the girls’ basketball team.

After retiring from teaching, Kevin found a new home working with the Toledo Metroparks, where his love for the outdoors and community service came full circle.

He was an avid sports fan, loyal to the Detroit Tigers, Green Bay Packers, and Ohio State Buckeyes.

Coach Kevin Scott Mitchell Passed Away, Making Everyone Devastated

As per the reports, Kevin Scott Mitchell, who served as the football, baseball, and basketball coach, tragically passed away on Monday, July 21, 2026, at the age of 66.

However, the exact cause of death has not been revealed yet.

Marty Kralik from Rossford, Ohio, took to his official handle to announce the news. He wrote,

Many close friends and family members took to the comment section, offering their heartfelt condolences and sending prayers to Kevin’s family.

Linda McMahon, a graduate of Stautzenberger Business College, commented,

Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry to hear this. My heart breaks for Laurie, Tyler and Alaina. Sending prayers and condolences.

Lisa Kuhn Perry, a former executive leader at Restro Beauty, wrote,

So sorry to hear of his passing and our prayers go out to his family. Great guy I had the pleasure to coach with and learned a lot from him.

Coach Mitchell is as solid and classy as they come. I enjoyed coaching with him and our players respected him as well. Prayers for comfort for Laurie, Alaina and Tyler.

According to Kevin’s family, friends are invited to gather in celebration of Kevin’s life on Sunday, July 27, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel on Monday, July 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. the following day.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kevin’s honor to the Sylvania Schools Foundation at sylvaniaschoolsfoundation.org.

Kevin will always be remembered for his unforgettable contributions as a player and a coach. Rest in Heaven, Kevin Scott Mitchell.

Kevin Scott Mitchell Is Survived By His Wife, Lauryl, And Two Children

A gifted three-sport athlete with Lauryl “Laurie” Mitchell in 1986.

Together, they shared a deep commitment to education and both earned their Master’s Degrees in 2003.

Although Lauryl stayed away from the media spotlight, she always supported Kevin in balancing his professional and personal life.

Sadly, their married life ended after 39 years following the tragic death of Kevin.

Kevin and Lauryl shared two children, Tyler and Alaina Mitchell. They have also stayed away from social media, mourning the loss of their supportive and devoted father, Kevin Scott Mitchell.
