Former Warren Central Assistant Football Coach Morris Johnson Died, Survived by His Two Daughters After His Wife’s Earlier Death!

Morris Johnson, a longtime assistant football coach at Warren Central High School, took his last breath in May 2026.

It was his family who shared the tragic news of his passing on social media earlier this week, prompting an outpouring of tributes from former players, colleagues, and the Vicksburg community.

Morris Johnson is survived by his daughters, Regina and Kay Johnson, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Lisa Johnson.

At the moment, details surrounding his wife’s demise remain unknown.

After the passing of Morris Johnson, his daughter, Regina Johnson, shared a heartfelt message, expressing gratitude for the immense support from fans and well-wishers. She wrote:

The family of the Late Coach Morris Johnson wishes to express sincere gratitude to all for your expressions of sympathy, love, prayers, and support as we navigate thru this difficult time. We’re in the process of making funeral arrangements, but not all are finalized. We’ll be sure to let everyone know as soon as we have the specifics for the service.

Likewise, Regina, a graduate of Alcorn State University, also shared a heartfelt eulogy in his tribute, recalling their cherished memories, writing:

The love I have for football came from My Daddy! I remember watching Warren Central playing on Friday, SWAC match ups on Saturday and The NFL on Sunday! Let’s not forget the Coke Cola Relays during track season! Coach Morris Johnson is my GOAT and I am very proud to be his daughter. Thank you Vicksburg Daily News for recognizing my daddy’s contributions to The Vicksburg Warren School District!

Coach Johnson spent over 30 years coaching in Warren County. He began his coaching career in 1971 at Davidson High School in St. Joseph, Louisiana, before joining Warren Central.

At Warren Central, he first coached the junior high and ninth-grade teams, winning many games with a record of 32-6-1.

Later, he coached the varsity team under head coach Robert Morgan Sr., working with players like wide receivers, linemen, and tight ends.

Besides football, Johnson also coached the track and field team, leading them to a state championship in 1987.

Later in 2002, he retired at the age of 62, leaving behind his legacy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2026, at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home, 2102 Clay St., Vicksburg. The public is invited to visit from 1 to 6 p.m., with a special family hour from 6 to 7 p.m.

Likewise, a celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Travelers Rest M.B. Church, 718 Bomar Ave., followed by burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
