Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Suzie McConnell-Serio and Pete Serio have been married for 37 years.

Suzie McConnell-Serio is a known name in the world of basketball; however, behind her coveted career is her husband, Pete Serio, whose own contributions to basketball and their shared life have been integral to their family’s legacy.

Both attended Seton-La Salle Catholic High School, where Suzie started on the 1984 PIAA state championship basketball team.

While specific details of their first meeting aren’t known, their shared roots in Brookline and Seton-La Salle suggest they crossed paths during their high school years.

Suzie and Pete began dating after high school, as she pursued her playing career at Penn State (1984–88), where she set NCAA records for assists.

Eventually, the couple walked down the aisle on April 23, 1989, shortly after Suzie’s gold medal win at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Suzie and Pete settled in Upper St. Clair, raising four children while both pursued coaching. Not to forget, all four of their kids played basketball.

Their eldest son, Peter Serio, played basketball at Upper St. Clair High School and later at the collegiate level.
