Nicholas ‘Nick’ Scull, a longtime employee of Georgia Southern University serving as the associate AD for facilities, events, and grounds, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2026.

The untimely death of a longtime Statesboro resident and beloved sportsman, Nick Scull, occurred after a long battle with cancer.

According to Nick’s wife, Melissa Scull’s , Nick Scull was diagnosed with Cancer in 2026 and underwent his first chemotherapy on October 12, 2026.

Furthemore, the untimely death of Nick Scull has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.

Georgia Southern Athletics took to its official social media page to pay tribute to its longtime employee and associate AD Nick Scull.

The late Nick Scull joined Georgia Southern University as an assistant director of facilities and operations in July 2013.

After two and a half years of serving in his position, Nick was promoted to Director of Athletic Facilities and Operations in 2015. In 2017, he became the assistant AD for Game Operations.

Likewise, he was serving in his recent position as the associate AD of Facilities, Events, and Grounds since 2026 until his untimely demise.

Many of his friends and loved ones are recalling the memories of Nick Scull and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

One wrote:

“Fly High, Nick Scull! We had some great laughs and some great times over the years! We will miss you brother!!”

Another added:

“Rode this afternoon with a heavy heart after learning that Nick Scull lost his battle with cancer this morning. Nick was our operations guy at Georgia Southern and was one of the nicest people you could ever work with. After the consolidation, he treated me like I had been working at GS for decades and always enjoyed talking sports with him before, during and after our numerous on-campus events.

Nicholas ‘Nick’ Scull is survived by his longtime wife, Melissa Scull, two daughters, Eliza and Izzy, and the whole family.

The late Nick Scull Served as an Athletic Operations Assistant With Several Renowned Universities

Prior to joining Georgia Southern University, served as an athletic operations assistant at the University of Pennsylvania in Greater Philadelphia for almost a year.

He also served as an athletic facilities and operations intern at Villanova University in Villanova, PA, for two years from 2011 to 2013.

While at Villanova, Scull also several Olympic Sports and assisted in numerous other major athletic events, championships, and facility projects such as Villanova Men’s Basketball, Big East Men’s Lacrosse Championships, and World Team Tennis (Philadelphia Freedom).

Similarly, he served as a graduate student assistant in athletic department operations at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for almost a year and as a YMCA staff member in Du Bois, PA, for nearly six years.

Nick also served as an event staff member of Pennsylvania State University from 2004 to 2008 and as a volunteer staff member of MLB for a month in 2006.

The late Nick Scull earned his Bachelor of Science, Sport Administration and Minor Coaching from Commonwealth University-Lock Haven in 2009 and a Master’s in Sport Science in the major Sport Management Track from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2011.
