Trudy, wife of Gerry, stood by him through every season of life and supported his career while raising their two sons, John and Douglas.
Gerry Philbin was a legendary defensive end best known for his time with the New York Jets during the 1960s and early 1970s.
Over his career, he started more than 100 games and earned two AFL All-Star selections along with First-Team All-AFL honors in 1968 and 1969.
He played a key role in the Jets’ historic victory in Super Bowl III, helping lead the defense in their upset over the Baltimore Colts.
After leaving the Jets, he played briefly for the Philadelphia Eagles and later for the New York Stars of the World Football League.
Philbin officially ended his pro football career after the 1974 season. After retiring, Philbin transitioned to the business world.
He remained on Long Island and entered the construction industry, where he became a successful businessman and later started a recycling company in the area.
Tragically, on June 25, 2026, in Jupiter, Florida.
His family reportedly revealed that he had been suffering from dementia in his later years.
Gerry Philbin And His Wife, Trudy, Shared A Long And Devoted Partnership That Spanned Several Decades!
Philbin was married to Trudy Lee Philbin for many years, and together they had two sons, John and Douglas.
Trudy, his wife, was by his side throughout his post-football life, though she largely stayed out of the public spotlight.
She was involved in operating family ventures like “Gerry Philbin’s Goal Post” restaurant in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, which suggests a long-term, active partnership.
Their long marriage and his devotion to family suggest a strong personal foundation that supported his professional success.
In a 2018 interview, Philbin shared that , and that his children were living in Florida at the time.
Likewise, Philbin was also deeply rooted in his role as a husband and father.
He relocated several times after retirement, from Florida to New Hampshire, then to Long Island.
Eventually, he settled back in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to live near his children, who were residing there at the time.
He operated a sand and gravel business, later worked in real estate, and remained committed to staying close to his wife and children.
In his later years, Gerry Philbin led a quieter life centered around family and reflection.
Tragically, he passed away peacefully, leaving behind a profound legacy cherished by all who knew him.

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father and grandpa, Gerry Philbin. He was such a great man and a great friend to everyone! We know God has him safely in his arms, and he can now rest comfortably at peace….
