Gloucester High School Athlete Christopher Joseph Dailey, 18, Dies After Accident Leaving Parents Rich And Nicole Mourning

The Gloucester community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 18-year-old Christopher Joseph Dailey, who passed away from injuries sustained in a car accident on June 30, 2026.

Born in Beverly and raised in Gloucester, Chris left a profound impact on everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

From a young age, he showed a zest for life that carried into everything he did, especially on the ice, where he found his greatest passion.

Christopher Dailey Was A Great Athlete

Chris attended Rockport schools through eighth grade, where he became a familiar face in the youth sports scene.

He played baseball, soccer, and lacrosse, but his heart belonged to hockey.

Skating since the age of two, Chris would go on to become a four-year varsity player for the Gloucester High School Fishermen, serving as co-captain and earning the title of Defenseman of the Year as a senior.

He graduated with the Class of 2026, a proud member of the National Honor Society, and was looking forward to beginning his college journey in business studies at Coastal Carolina University this fall.

Friends, teammates, and teachers knew Chris as someone whose smile could light up any room.

He had a way of bringing people together, was a natural leader, the “life of the party,” and a loyal friend.

Whether he was at the beach, fishing, skiing, riding dirt bikes, or just enjoying time with loved ones, Chris lived life to the fullest.

Those closest to him remember his boundless energy, warm heart, and genuine compassion.

He was always the first to offer a helping hand or words of encouragement and was fiercely loyal to the people he loved.

Christopher Dailey Was A Cherished Son, Brother, And Friend

Chris was the beloved son of Rich and Nicole (Hochmuth) Dailey and a devoted brother to Rachel Dailey.

The bond he shared with his sister was described as unbreakable, filled with cherished memories and love.

He was also a proud grandson to Paul and Julia Hochmuth of Schenectady, NY, and Janet Dailey of Rockport.

He is mourned by a loving extended family, including aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

Chris was predeceased by his grandfather, Russell Dailey of Rockport, and Debbie Hochmuth of Schenectady, NY.

His funeral mass will be held at Saint Ann’s Church, 74 Pleasant St., Gloucester, MA, on Thursday, July 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chris Dailey Memorial Scholarship Fund at Cape Ann Savings Bank, 109 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930.

Arrangements are under the care of Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.

Chris Dailey may have only lived 18 years, but in that short time, he touched more lives than most could in a lifetime.

His joy, energy, and kindness will continue to echo through the halls of Gloucester High, on the ice where he once skated proudly, and in the hearts of those who loved him.
