A beloved Hazel Green Athletic Association member, Brent Watson, passed away on May 19, 2026, at 40 with complications following a significant heart attack caused by a blockage in his right coronary artery.
Brent Watson is survived by his wife of 18 years, Kelly Blankenship Watson, and their four kids, Taylor, Lauren, Madelyn, and Jillian.
He took immense joy in leading his children to a personal relationship with Christ, praying with them as they embraced their faith.
Reportedly, Watson suffered a heart attack caused by a blockage in his right coronary artery in early May 2026.
Later, the heart attack led to complications, including an aneurysm in the affected area and pericarditis, an inflammation around the heart.
Despite medical efforts to stabilize him with new medications, Brent faced ongoing challenges in his recovery. Tragically, he passed away on May 19, 2026, as confirmed by his obituary.
His wife, Kelly, took to her Facebook to disclose his situation and asked for prayers. Expressing hope that the newly introduced medications would bring relief, she wrote:
We hope to see that condition start to improve in the next 24 hours with the newly added medications so that he may finally get some relief and be able to start the road to recovery and cardiac rehab. While there are so many unknowns at this time and questions as to next steps, we have no question at all as to WHO holds the reins and continues to orchestrate each step along this difficult path. Over and over already God has shown us His relentless grace and mercy and put so many people in our path to remind us of His love and power over all things! One day I’ll share some of the sweet and divine moments
She also urged others to pray for Brent’s healing, hoping for improvements that would allow them to return home to their children and care for one another, saying:
Please pray for healing of Brent’s heart muscle and improvement of his current symptoms so we can soon get home to our babies and just take care of each other at home. Thank you SO much to so many who have called, texted, sent items or food, loved on our kids and especially prayed for Brent. We feel each prayer and are being held up by each one of you right now! So many uncertainties but one ABSOLUTE truth to cling to for us all…God IS good! 🙌❤️
However, sadly, Brent Watson succumbed to the complications, leaving everyone behind.
Within 24 hours after Kelly asked for prayers, their life turned upside down. Later, Kelly wrote a lengthy eulogy in his honor while seeking a silver lining in her grief:
The rock of our family and my heart as I knew it, Brent Watson, was called by our Father who created him 40 years ago to leave our earthly presence and rejoin Him at the feet of Jesus Christ in Heaven. The pain is intense and deafening but the glory of God shines brighter and clearer by the minute and we praise the ONLY rock worth giving it all to as we sink in that pain for this moment.
Besides his wife and kids, Brent Wilson also left behind his parents, his sister Allison, her husband Cody Martin, his brother Lance, and his wife Laryssa.
As a proud uncle, Brent delighted in his nephews, Eli, Cason, and Carter, and his nieces, Emma, Ila, and Elliana.
He also held dear the memory of his late brother-in-law, Johnny Henderson, and cherished his grandmother, Ann Watson, along with his in-laws, including his mother-in-law Denise (Randy) Reynolds, father-in-law Phillip (Sharon) Blankenship, brother-in-law Andrew (Shannon) Blankenship, sister-in-law Maggie Reynolds, and Kelly’s grandmother, Peggy Talley.
Likewise, Brent Wilson also leaves behind his extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
