A promising hockey forward from Quebec, Christophe Babin, took his last breath suddenly on July 25, 2026, at the age of 20.

Christophe Babin is survived by his parents, Stéphane Babin and Sophie Laroche, and his sister Jordane.

He was a beloved grandson to his grandparents, Paul-Arthur Babin and Viviane Mercier.

Christophe also leaves behind his uncles and aunts: Nathalie Laroche (Stéphan Goulet), Isabelle Laroche, Isabelle Babin (Ghislain Lussier), Sonia Babin; his cousins: Mathilde, Étienne, Gaëlle, and Nathaniel; and many loved ones.

Born on June 2, 2005, to Stéphane and Sophie, Christophe was raised in Saint-Thomas-de-Joliette, Quebec, Canada.

Above all, tragically, his death came just one week after making his professional debut in the LNHB.

It was his team, Assurancia Venne et fille de Joliette of the National Ball Hockey League (NBHL), that issued a statement expressing grief over the far-too-early loss of one of their own.

However, until then, the prime cause of his demise had been concealed from the public.

Initially, his family was grieving in private; however, eventually they broke their silence after a few days of his passing about the circumstances of his demise.

Christophe Babin’s family confirmed that he had died by suicide and used their grief to raise awareness for mental health.

In their statement, they urged anyone in crisis to seek help and not hesistate.

Likewise, they also asked for donations for Association québécoise de prévention du suicide, an organization helping out with the Suicide Crisis in the province of Quebec.

Adding to the message, they wrote:

Never hesitate to call. Call 1-866-APPELLE (1-866-277-3553).
It’s an emergency support number, and professionals are there to listen to you, without judgment, 24/7.
Talking can make a huge difference.
Your life is precious.

His sister, Jordane, penned a lengthy tribute post expressing her grief and letting him know that he mattered:

What he loved most was his family and friends. Christo not a day goes by he doesn’t tell me he loves me.
Sadly, my little brother was carrying a lot of pain in him.
My christo, I want you to know that you were and always will be the best brother in the world. I was extremely lucky to have a special relationship with you.
Hope your ok where you are and not suffering anymore.

The team confirmed his passing in an emotional statement, saying:

Our organization is mourning one of its members.
We are deeply saddened to learn of the far-too-early passing of Christophe Babin, one of our promising young players but, more importantly, a young man loved by everyone.
Watch over us, Babs.

Speaking of his career, Christophe Babin was a left-shooting center who played two impressive seasons with the Joliette Prédateurs in the Quebec Junior Hockey League (QJHL).

He recorded 30 points in 44 games during the 2026–24 season and 34 points in 40 games in 2026–25.

In July 2026, Christophe made his professional ball hockey debut with Assurancia Venne et fille de Joliette, playing his first LNHB game on July 18 against Granby, just a week before his tragic passing.

His family, friends, and loved ones are invited to pay their respects at Joliette Regional Funeral Center on Saturday, August 9, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A commemorative ceremony will follow at Chapel of the Funeral Center on Saturday, August 9, at 3:30 p.m.

During this difficult time, we pray for the strength of Christophe’s parents, sister, friends, teammates, and extended family.

Rest In Heavenly Peace, Christophe Babin!
