George Foreman and his fifth wife, Mary Joan Martelly, were married for nearly 40 years.
George Foreman was a legendary boxer, entrepreneur, and ordained minister who tragically passed away on March 21, 2026.
He was born to parents Nancy and Leroy Moorehead on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas.
Nancy was a hardworking and determined woman who raised George and his six siblings in Houston, Texas.
After her husband, J.D. Foreman (whom she married after George’s biological father), left, Nancy was the single parent of the family.
Despite financial struggles, she encouraged her children to focus on education and avoid trouble. Unfortunately, Nancy passed away in 1998 at the age of 78.
On the other hand, George’s biological father, Leroy, was not actively involved in his life.
He was raised under the surname of J.D. Foreman, his stepfather, but he later embraced his biological father’s name.

Adrienne later shared that their relationship was heartbreaking, as Foreman prioritized his boxing career over their marriage.

Cynthia later adapted her experiences into a one-woman play. She highlighted the challenges she faced during their relationship in that play.
Similarly, Foreman’s third marriage to Sharon in 1981 was brief, ending in 1982. Little is documented about their relationship.

Foreman was a devoted family man. He famously named all his sons George Edward Foreman, each with a unique nickname to distinguish them.
Their daughters included Michi, Georgetta, Natalie, Leola, and the late Freeda. Isabella and Courtney were adopted.
George often credited his wife, Mary, for being a good wife who understood the importance of family and children.
Even though Mary knew little about her husband’s career, she stood by him through thick and thin.
Additionally, the couple’s life was showcased in the 2008 TV series Family Foreman, which highlighted George’s role as a father and husband.
