Reportedly, at least five people were injured by illegal fireworks in Antioch on Friday, July 4, 2026.

The incident was reported early Saturday morning, just after midnight, along the 2200 block of Spanos Street.

A person who lit the firework remained at a hospital in critical condition, Lt William Whitaker said, adding that the man lost several fingers and suffered other injuries to his face and chest.

The explosion, which a high-grade firework, occurred around 12:20 a.m. Saturday in a back alley at an apartment complex on Spanos Street, off Syacmore Drive.

Paramedics took four of the men to a hospital. Two others drove themselves to a hospital, and the boy declined medical treatment. All of the men were in their twenties, as per the police officers.
