WNBA player Maddy Siegrist acknowledges her athletic parents for shaping her journey and playing a key role in her success on the court.

Maddy Siegrist has established her name in the basketball world. Behind her success are her supportive parents, George and Ginna Siegrist, whose professions and sacrifices have played a significant role in her journey.

Maddy Siegrist was born on May 22, 2000, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to George and Ginna Siegrist. She is the eldest of their four children, with two brothers, George Jr. and Patrick, and a sister, Caroline.

Given the fact that both of her parents were Division I athletes at Marist College, it wasn’t surprising for her to get inclined towards sports. Their athletic backgrounds influenced Maddy’s path to becoming a professional basketball player.

Maddy Siegrist’s Father, George, Is A Former Basketball Player Turned Coach!

George Siegrist, father, played basketball at Marist College from 1987 to 1991 as a power forward.

His experience as a collegiate athlete gave him firsthand knowledge of the dedication required to succeed in sports. After his playing days, George transitioned into coaching.

George currently serves as an assistant coach for the Marist College men’s basketball team.

His role involves working with players to develop their skills, strategizing for games, and contributing to the team’s overall success.

His deep connection to basketball has been a constant presence in Maddy’s life as she grew up attending Marist games from the age of six months, watching her father coach, and absorbing the sport’s culture.

George’s expertise in basketball provided Maddy with early guidance.

In an interview with Mann About Town, Maddy recalled her father’s advice: “Her father, however, made sure to tell her that people would always be taller than her and that her focus should be concentrated on being able to shoot, dribble and pass.

This advice helped Maddy sharpen her versatile game, which led to her becoming Villanova’s all-time leading scorer and the third overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.

Maddy Siegrist’s Mother, Ginna Siegrist, Is A Former Cheerleader Turned Family Business Leader!

Ginna Siegrist was a varsity cheerleader at Marist College during her college years.

Currently, Ginna manages Siegrist Construction, the family’s business in Poughkeepsie, New York.

She has had Maddy’s back at all times, be it small or big milestones.

One notable instance of her dedication was during Maddy’s WNBA game against the New York Liberty in Brooklyn in June 2026.

Ginna organized a massive turnout of family, friends, and community members from Poughkeepsie to cheer for Maddy.

As reported, what started as a small text chain grew into a need for 402 tickets, with Ginna managing the logistics and even handling thousands of dollars in ticket payments through Venmo.

I looked at my Venmo account, and it had something like $8,000 in it. I kept having to call back for more tickets,” Ginna recalled. This effort speaks volumes about her commitment to rallying the community to support Maddy’s professional milestones.
