In a devastating incident that shook North St. Louis County, 11-year-old Marshaun Futrell Jr., affectionately known as “Baby Marshaun,” lost his life in a tragic shooting on Monday evening.
St. Louis County Police responded to the 1800 block of Longford Drive just after 8 p.m., where they found young Marshaun suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite emergency medical efforts and being rushed to the hospital, doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting have sent shockwaves through the community.
According to police reports, a 13-year-old witness stated that Marshaun had two firearms in his backpack, and they were playing with the guns when one discharged, fatally striking the victim.
The incident occurred in a home where authorities later discovered 12 firearms, many loaded and accessible to children. A 2-year-old child was also present during the tragic event.
In the aftermath of this heartbreaking incident, Marshaun Futrell Sr., the boy’s father, faces serious legal consequences.
St. Louis County prosecutors charged him with first-degree child endangerment resulting in death, a class A felony, along with two additional counts of first-degree child endangerment.
He remains confined in the St. Louis County Jail with a bond set at $100,000 cash only.
The community remembers Marshaun Jr. as an all-star football player with a promising future ahead of him.
Neighbor Rickey Saunders, who witnessed the police response, expressed his sorrow, noting that this marked the fourth gun-related juvenile death in St. Louis County this year.
