The crash on U.S. Route 54, approximately two miles north of Bagnell Dam near the Lake of the Ozarks in Miller County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s report, Simpson had parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the highway with his left wheels still positioned in the driving lane.

At around 10 p.m., an SUV driven by a 41-year-old from Eldon struck Simpson’s vehicle from behind in the eastbound lanes.

Emergency responders pronounced Simpson dead at the scene, while the SUV driver sustained no injuries.

Simpson would have entered his junior year at Versailles High School in the fall of 2026.

The active student participated extensively in school activities, including DECA, cross country, football, track and field, and wrestling.

His involvement in both athletics and academic competitions made him a well-known figure throughout the school community.

The district has arranged counseling services for students and staff struggling with the loss.

These support services will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, in the Versailles High School commons.

School officials encourage parents to engage in meaningful conversations with their children during this difficult time and to monitor any behavioral changes.

Simpson was the son of Kayla and Andy Lutz, with Andy serving as general manager at The Factory Shoppe at McCall’s Candles in Tipton, Missouri.
