Chad McCuin, a cherished high school athlete in Rusk, East Texas, passed away on August 18, 2026, after struggling with a sudden illness.

His twin sister, Crystal McCuin, now holds his memory close, celebrating the incredible person he was a brother, a friend, and a shining light in their community.

Chad McCuin was a proud graduate of Rusk High School, class of May 2026 who spent his senior year shining on the t at Eagle Stadium, where he was a standout athlete.

Whether he was charging down the field or sinking shots, Chad’s talent was undeniable but it was his warm smile and kind spirit that truly set him apart and he had a way of making everyone feel like they mattered.

To his twin sister, Crystal, Chad was so much more than a star athlete. He was her “right hand man,” her protector, and her best friend.

The bond they shared as twins was special filled with shared laughs, inside jokes, and an unspoken understanding. “He could make even the darkest moments feel lighter,” Crystal said, reflecting on the joy Chad brought to her life.

A Sudden and Heartbreaking Battle

Chad’s life took a devastating turn in May 2026 when What started as a routine doctor’s visit spiraled into a medical emergency.

“Boom, we got a call that they have to do surgery because he had an infection, We got that call and right after that everything went downhill.”

Chad underwent emergency surgeries, including the replacement of three leaky heart valves, as doctors fought to save him from a severe infection.

For months, Chad battled in the hospital, showing the same strength he displayed on the field.

Crystal and their family stayed by his side, hoping and praying for his recovery. There were moments when it seemed like he was turning a corner, but the infection spread to his blood, causing his organs to fail.

On August 18, 2026, Chad’s fight came to an end, leaving his loved ones heartbroken.

“One day led to two months, and then now it’s this It’s just devastating.”

In the days following Chad’s passing, Crystal poured her heart out in a moving social media post.

She wrote-:

“I don’t even know where to start, My right hand man, my twin, my brother is gone. Losing my brother has left a space in my life that can never be filled. He was more than just family; he was a friend, a protector, and someone I could always count on. I swear you will never go to the land of the forgotten.”

She spoke of his laugh, his ability to light up a room, and the promise to keep his memory alive

Crystal’s words struck a chord, and the Rusk community responded with an outpouring of love.

The Rusk Community to Come Together and Share Heartfelt Memories of Chad

Community had showed just how many lives he touched.

“I went to see him several times while he was in Tyler. We talked about football and track because basketball wasn’t his favorite. I sat and held his hand while ‘we’ talked. He couldn’t really talk, but he’d squeeze my hand, nod, or shake his head. I watched a nurse pray over him, and I’ve prayed almost every day for God to heal him. My heart hurts, but I know he isn’t suffering anymore.”

The love and support from the Rusk community have been a lifeline for Crystal and her family.

Social media posts flooded in, each one a evidence to Chad’s impact. Crystal was moved by the response, writing,

“The love is so overwhelming. I see y’all posting my brother, and it makes me feel like it’s our birthday all over again. I love the memories y’all have with him; it puts a smile on my face.”

Even while working, she felt the community’s embrace, promising to reply to messages during her break.

To help with Chad’s mounting medical bills, a GoFundMe was set up during his hospital stay, aiming to raise $4,000.

The fundraiser became a way for the community to show their support, not just financially but emotionally, as they grieving around the McCuin family during this unimaginable time.

Chad McCuin’s life was cut short, but his legacy lives on through his twin sister, Crystal, and the countless lives he touched.

His spirit full of laughter, kindness, and strength continues to inspire those who knew him.

Crystal carries him in her heart, determined to honor his memory in everything she does. “Though he’s no longer here in person, his spirit will always live on,” she wrote.
