The Long Beach, New York, surfing community is mourning the untimely and heartbreaking death of 27-year-old Austin Gibbons.

On July 10, 2026, Austin tragically after suffering a seizure while in the water at Long Beach.

Despite being an experienced surfer, certified lifeguard, and beloved instructor at Skudin Surf, Gibbons tragically drowned that day, sending shockwaves through a community that had watched him grow from a young surf camper into a respected mentor.

Austin Gibbons was no stranger to close calls. Just last year, he nearly lost his life after a surfing accident in Hawaii left him in a medically induced coma.

At that time, he recovered and returned to his passion for the ocean, inspiring others with his resilience and positive spirit. Sadly, this time the outcome was different.

Austin Gibbons’ funeral services were held on July 15th and 16th, with private cremation to follow.
