Former Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers, who was previously banned by the NCAA for sports betting, is once again making headlines as he begins a new chapter as a quarterback for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL.

On May 12, 2026, Hunter Dekkers officially signed with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent, marking the start of his professional career and silencing those who doubted his comeback after the betting scandal.

Back in 2026, while playing for the Iowa State football program, Hunter Dekkers was accused of betting on Cyclones sports teams, allegedly using his parents, Jami and Scott, as a third party to conceal his online gambling identity.

According, Hunter Dekkers placed 366 online bets worth more than $2,799, covering 25 Cyclones athletic events, including a 2026 football game against Oklahoma State in which he didn’t play with his parents’ help.

Furthermore, Hunter Dekkers was accused of using his mother Jami and father Scott’s identities to place bets while he was still underage, as the legal betting age in Iowa is 21 years old.

Although former Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers and his parents, Jami and Scott, faced backlash and criticism in the past, it’s now behind them.

The new Saints quarterback, Hunter Dekkers, is now making his parents proud as he begins a new chapter in his career.

Despite their struggles and hard times, Jami and Scott never gave up on their only son and remained his constant supporters.

Talking about Hunter Dekkers’ parents, his mother,, a graduate of the University of South Dakota, currently works as an Independent Insurance Agent at Aflac in Hawarden, Iowa. However, no information about his father Scott’s professional life is available.

Although very little is known about Dekkers’ parents, Jami and Scott often share pictures of their athletic son and daughters on their social media, expressing their love and pride.

After the New Orleans Saints signed Hunter Dekkers, his biggest supporter, mother Jami Dekkers, took to Facebook to express her pride in his new journey.

She began her post by writing, “He did it… Hunter signed with the Saints!!!

Jami further added:

“It’s hard to even put into words how this moment truly feels. It’s a combination of being so thankful trusting in God’s plan 🙏🏻 to the other side that wants to scream….LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO!!!! 😤💪🏼”

Moreover, she also spoke about her son Hunter Dekkers’ struggle and dedication to achieve his dream of becoming an NFL player and expressed her gratitude to people who have truly supported the Dekkers family both in their high and low moments.

Jami and Scott Dekkers raised all of their kids, Hunter Dekkers and his two younger sisters, Addi and Maci Dekkers, to be exceptional athletes.

All of the Dekkers siblings, Hunter, Addi, and Maci, excelled as athletes, attending their mother’s alma mater, West Sioux High School.

Furthermore, played on the girls’ varsity basketball team at West Sioux and led her team to several victories. She graduated in 2026.

Addi Dekkers is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree at her mother Jami’s alma mater, the University of South Dakota.

Likewise, Hunter Dekkers’ youngest sister, , currently plays for the West Sioux girls’ golf team. She recently won the medalist honor with a 47.
