She revealed in a heartfelt Facebook post that her mother was diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer in January 2026. Tragically, by February, her mother had passed away.
Her mother was like a guardian angel who would protect her children under any circumstances.
I did not know that I was poor until I started living a different life. That’s how great she did. I wasn’t missing school because she was also a person who wasn’t afraid to ask for help.
The loss devastated the young athlete, who had been balancing training with frequent trips between Kingston and St. Elizabeth to care for her sick mother.
She was a person who would be the only person that would show up to my track meets and everything.
Despite her grief, Bromfield threw herself into training, but the emotional toll affected her performance. She struggled to meet the Olympic qualifying time and felt demotivated leading up to Jamaica’s national trials.
On the day of the trials, overwhelmed with emotion, she broke down in tears and prayed for strength. Miraculously, she found the resolve to run a personal best of 50.7 seconds, which secured her a spot on the Olympic team.

Noah Lyles is not only one of the fastest men in the world but also a vocal advocate for mental health.
His openness about his struggles, including his use of antidepressants in 2026 and how it affected his training, has inspired many, including his fiancée, Junelle Bromfield.
Bromfield has spoken about how Lyles’ transparency and support have positively influenced her mental well-being.
Their relationship has given her a stronger support system, particularly through her close bond with Lyles’ mother, Keisha Caine.
When Bromfield moved to Florida to join a new training group, she initially lived with Keisha, creating a deeper bond with the Lyles’ family.
I started therapy about two years ago because my boyfriend is big on therapy and felt I needed it. It’s been really helpful because I’ve been dealing with survivor’s guilt, which was weighing on me. Now, I feel like I can live my life fully and enjoy every moment because life is short.
Furthermore, they maintain a healthy balance between their personal and professional lives. They push each other to be better by keeping their romance separate from their running careers.
Nonetheless, Lyles’ advocacy and their strong support system have not only strengthened their relationship but also reinforced the importance of mental health in athletics.
