The Saginaw community is grieving the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Jacob Mattheis, a 17-year-old student at Nouvel Catholic Central High School, who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 12, 2026.
Born on July 3, 2008, in Saginaw, Michigan, Jacob was the cherished son of Brian and Michelle (Krabill) Mattheis.
A proud member of Nouvel’s junior class, Jacob was deeply involved in school life, both academically and athletically.
He was a standout in football, basketball, and track, known for his hard work, team spirit, and quiet strength.
Beyond the classroom and sports field, Jacob was a Camp Counselor at Camp Lu Lay Lea in Lupton, Michigan, where he brought joy and guidance to younger campers.
A devout young man, he was also a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where his faith shone brightly in all he did.
Jacob’s love for the outdoors, his deep bond with family and friends, and his kind-hearted nature made him a light in the lives of those around him.
His presence, his smile, and the genuine care he offered others will be remembered always.
Jacob Mattheis’ Family Has Suffered A Heartfelt Loss
Jacob is survived by his loving parents, Brian and Michelle, and his sisters, Riley and Addison Mattheis.
He also leaves behind his girlfriend, Cora Wedding, and many family members.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Jacob will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Snow Funeral Home, and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the start of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to Nouvel Catholic Central High School or Camp Lu Lay Lea, places where Jacob deeply loved and served.
