Peter DeBoer, a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player, has been fired from his position as the head coach for the Dallas Stars of the NHL.

The longtime NHL coach, Peter DeBoer, who joined the Dallas Stars as their head coach on June 21, 2026, was relieved from his duties on June 6, 2026, after their third consecutive loss in the conference finals.

Jim Nill, General Manager of the Dallas Stars, announced the dismissal of Peter DeBoer and stated that the search for the next head coach is ongoing.

He wrote:

“After careful consideration, we believe that a new voice is needed in our locker room to push us closer to our goal of winning the Stanley Cup, We’d like to thank Pete for everything that he has helped our organization achieve over the past three seasons and wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

DeBoer earned a 149-68-29 record in 246 regular-season games over three seasons with the Stars, leading the club to three consecutive Western Conference Final appearances.

While many criticize Peter DeBoer for never leading the Stars to a Stanley Cup Final during his coaching tenure, his longtime wife, Susan DeBoer, has remained by his side through every high and low as his constant supporter.

The couple tied the knot in 1996 and have been happily married for over 28 years.

While not much is known about Susan DeBoer’s personal or professional life, as she prefers to stay out of the spotlight despite being the wife of a famous NHL coach, Peter DeBoer often expresses his love and appreciation for his longtime partner.

Peter and Susan DeBoer Are Proud Of Their Children’s Achievements

Peter DeBoer and his wife, Susan DeBoer, are not just an amazing couple, but also great parents to their three children, sons Jack and Matthew ‘Matt’ and daughter Abigail ‘Abby’ DeBoer.

Their first child, son , born on August 17, 2000, in Madison, New Jersey, followed in his father’s footsteps in sports and is an exceptional hockey player and coach.

Standing at the towering height of 6’3”, he played as a forward at Boston University, Niagara University, Madison High School, and Plymouth High School.

At Boston University,  for three seasons, during which he played in 57 games, recording five goals and six assists. At Niagara University, he concluded his career with 35 games played and 92 career games skated.

Jack also played in USHL’s U.S. National U17 and U18 team from 2016-18 and won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2018 U18 World Championship and led Madison High School to the 2015 Haas Cup title.

Likewise,  as the hockey coach of the Vegas Golden Knights, coaching children aged 8 to 10.

He also worked as a caddie at Caddie Dallas LLC and began his professional journey with EHC De Baren in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in 2026.

Jack further served as the assistant coach of Lone Star Brahmas in Texas and currently serves as the head coach of the Texas Tigers U14 AA Hockey Team in Dallas, Texas, since 2026.

In addition to his hockey career, Jack also works as a project specialist and delivery partner of 7-Eleven in Irving, Texas, and previously owned and operated a summer hockey program, MJ Skills Corp.

Peter and Susan DeBoer’s youngest son, Matthew ‘Matt‘, is also following in the footsteps of his father and brother, currently playing for the College of the Holy Cross men’s hockey team and set to graduate in 2026 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

Matt alsoAtlantic Hockey All-Academic Team award in 2026. During his junior year, 2026-25, he blocked 17 shots and won four faceoffs.

Before Holy Cross, Matt played for the USHL Green Bay Gamblers during the 2026-21 and 2026-22 seasons and played three seasons of varsity hockey at the Salisbury School, leading his team to win the Elite-8 Championship in 2026.

He also served as the instructor for the Vegas Junior Golden Knights Hockey Program for over a year.

Peter and Susan’s second child and only daughter, , currently works as a Clinical Extern at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.

Earning her Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology from Queen’s University, Abby also served as the Vice President of UNICEF Queen’s for almost two years and as Coordinator of Landmark Ventures in New York.
