Lucas Bradshaw is the most seriously injured student in the New Prairie High School baseball team crash.

On May 8, 2026, a serious accident occurred in LaPorte County, Indiana, involving two New Prairie United School Corporation mini buses transporting the New Prairie High School Junior Varsity (JV) baseball team.

The crash took place at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Fail Road when a box truck collided with the buses. Another commercial vehicle was also involved.

We offer our deepest thoughts and prayers to New Prairie baseball, their families, and the entire Cougar community following the tragic accident.

No team prepares for something like this, and in moments like these, we are all one baseball family.

The accident occurred when a reckless box truck driver, Shawn Akison, failed to stop for police and collided with two New Prairie mini-buses carrying the junior varsity baseball team.

Multiple injuries were reported, with several individuals, including students, taken to area hospitals.

Among them, Lucas Bradshaw, likely over 15 years old and a member of the JV baseball team, is currently in the ICU. His parents, and , are by his side.

Lucas Bradshaw, a member of the school’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H, is critically injured in a tragic accident involving members of the New Prairie JV baseball team.

He is deeply involved in his community and embodies values of service and leadership.

As an FFA member, he follows the motto “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.”

He is also a, striving “to make the best better.” As a true New Prairie Cougar, he shows courage and heart both on and off the field.

Lucas’s strength comes from the values he has learned from his family, school, and community.

Known for being a kind and hard-working young man, he now needs their support as he faces this difficult time.

We continue prayers for New Prairie baseball player Lucas Bradshaw and his family.

Lucas was severely injured in Thursday’s crash involving the JV team on its way to a game at Hobart.
