Jalen Elrod’s mother, Regina, is a counselor, while her father, Maurice, works in marketing for the Houston Texans.
Jalen Elrod is set to in the 24th and final spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon on Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14, 2026, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Earlier, Elrod led Purdue Indoor Track & Field on the opening day of the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships with First Team All-American honors in the pentathlon.
Jalen is a on the Purdue Boilermakers Track & Field team.
A transfer from Prairie View A&M and a native of Houston, Texas, Jalen claimed silver at the 2026 Big Ten Indoor Championships and was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team.
Moreover, her collegiate career is marked by multiple SWAC titles and medals in events ranging from the pentathlon to the 4x400m relay.
With personal bests ranking her No. 1 all-time at Purdue in the indoor pentathlon and No. 4 in the outdoor heptathlon, she established herself as one of the most versatile athletes.
Jalen Elrod’s Parents Supported Her And Fueled A Passion For Track At Seven
Born on August 5, 2003, in Houston, Texas, Jalen Elrod, 22, was raised by her father, Maurice Elrod, and her mother, Regina Elrod.
Maurice and Regina supported Elrod and fueled a passion for track when she was seven, while girls of her age were still riding their razor scooters.
During one of the interviews, Jalen her parents for their love and support. She said,
“I am blessed to have the family I do,” “My mom and dad have been so good to me. I love them to death. People say I am smiley, bubbly, jokey. Then, when people meet my parents, they see why. They are goofy and very smart. I get advice from them on everything. I love their faith in us and Christ.”
Elrod and her parents faced tragedy back in 2026 when their home was destroyed by a fire that took the lives of her paternal grandmother, Cornelia Elrod, and her family cat, Dexter.
Her father, Maurice Elrod, was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Oberlin College.
Following his graduation, he spent approximately 15 years flourishing in a career that combined sports, entertainment, and marketing.
Currently, he is serving as a film director, writer, and producer. As per his profile, he is known for TIME (Treasure Intimate Memories Everyday), Wages of Sin: Lust, and Make Yourself at Home.
On the other hand, Jalen’s mother, Regina, is a licensed psychotherapist. She received her bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in 2002 and later earned her degree from Lamar University.
According to Regina’s profile, she served as a teacher, coach, and athletic coordinator at Katy Independent School District (Katy ISD).
She was also the dean of academic progress at KIPP Texas Public Schools. Since April 2026, Regina has been serving as the adult mental health therapist at New Dimensions Day Treatment Centers.
Track Athlete Jalen Elrod Grew Up With Her Two Siblings
Jalen Elrod has one brother, Maurice “Tre” Elrod, and one sister, Samiah Elrod.
Her brother, Maurice, is a on the Academy of Art University men’s basketball team.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and hailing from Houston, Texas, Elrod is a Music Production & Sound Design for Visual Media major and a graduate of Morton Ranch High School.
During his high school career, he was a four-year varsity basketball player and part of the 2018 TAPPS State Championship team.
He appeared in 14 games during the 2026-23 campaign and contributed 17 points and five rebounds.
On the other hand, Jalen’s , Samiah Elrod, 13, was born in 2013. She has avoided social media, but she supports her sister, Jalen, and brother Maurice.
