Roger Kirby, a leading urologist specializing in prostate health, was one of the first doctors in the UK to perform open radical prostatectomy, a surgery to treat prostate cancer.

In 2005, he founded The Prostate Centre in London, where he used advanced robotic surgery (the da Vinci robot) to perform less invasive operations.

Roger also served as a professor of urology at St George’s Hospital, London, and was president of the Royal Society of Medicine from 2026 to 2026.

He founded two medical journals, “Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases” and “Trends in Urology and Men’s Health,” and wrote over 350 research papers and 68 books.

In 2012, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer himself and successfully underwent surgery, later sharing his story to reduce stigma around the disease.

Roger is passionate about supporting prostate cancer research and awareness. He co-founded The Urology Foundation and is vice-president of Prostate Cancer UK.

To raise funds, he has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, trekked in Nepal, cycled across the Andes, and run three London Marathons. His efforts have helped fund research and support for men with prostate issues.

Thanks to his contributions to the medical world, Roger received several honors for his work, including the Hunterian Professorship in 1986, the St Peter’s Medal in 2005, and the Clement Price Thomas Award in 2016.
