Andre Agassi is one of the greatest tennis players in history, and his parents, Mike and Betty Agassi, played a big role in shaping his life and career.
The celebrated tennis player Andre Agassi was born on April 29, 1970, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Emmanuel “Mike” Agassi and Elizabeth “Betty” Agassi.
His father, Mike, originally named Emanoul Aghassian, was born in Iran to Armenian parents. His mother, Betty, born Elizabeth Dudley, is American.
Mike and Betty’s love story began in Chicago. Reportedly, they crossed paths through a mutual friend, and after dating for just two months, they married on August 19, 1959, at a Methodist church in Chicago’s North Side.
Their quick romance led to a long-term partnership that lasted decades. In 1962, they moved to Las Vegas with their young daughter, Rita, and newborn son, Phillip, where they raised their family and supported Andre’s tennis career.

Betty Agassi was a supportive mother and homemaker who stood by her family through their tennis journeys, regardless.
She faced health challenges, surviving breast cancer, and later shared her experience to help other women. In 2002, she appeared with Andre in a “Got Milk?” advertisement, showing her support for his career in a fun way.

Andre has been open about his under Mike’s strict coaching. He wrote that Mike made him hit 5,000 balls a day and sent him to Nick Bollettieri’s Tennis Academy at age 13, which Andre found difficult.
Despite this, Andre later understood Mike’s intentions, saying,
“My father is incredibly loyal. I wish he had loved me less.”
In a 2010 interview, Andre called Mike “generous” and said he was chasing the “American dream” for his family.
Likewise, in a 2009 interview with SPIEGEL, Andre shared that their relationship grew warmer over time.
He said, “… Today, we do all these things,” showing how they learned to express affection.
