Rudy Gobert, a French professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves, is expecting a second child with his former girlfriend, Julia Bonilla.

They ended their relationship one year after welcoming their first child, Romeo, in May 2026.

Rudy Gobert-Bourgarel began playing basketball for the JSC St-Quentin club in 2003, before joining Cholet Basket’s cadet categories training center.

He participated in the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship with the French under-18 national team in 2010 and finished as the team’s best scorer and rebounder.

He played for the Cholet Basket junior team from 2009 to 2011 and declared for the 2013 NBA draft.

The Denver Nuggets drafted him with the 27th overall pick but traded him to the Utah Jazz on the draft night. He was assigned to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League.

Rudy joined the Jazz for the 2014 NBA Summer League in July 2014 and finished third in the NBA Most Improved Player Award voting.

He won the Alain Gilles Trophy as the French player of the year for 2019 and was named a Western Conference reserve for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game.

On July 6, 2026, the Jazz traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and on October 23, 2026, he signed a three-year contract extension.

Currently pregnant with their second child, Julia addressed the split on her private Instagram account, expressing her heartbreak.

, where she opened up about the emotional toll of the breakup. She described going through one of the most painful times in her life, feeling isolated and far from her support system.

She reflected on her deep commitment to Rudy.

I considered Rudy the love of my life. I left everything for him. I gave him a child and poured my heart into our relationship.

Julia also mentioned standing by him during difficult times, including when he faced criticism, earlier this year.

Despite their split, Julia emphasized her dedication to protecting Rudy’s reputation for the sake of their children.

My partner is the most dedicated, focused, hard-working person I have ever met. He hasn’t stolen anything from anyone and deserves all the respect for his determination and commitment to his career.
It’s hard for me to stay quiet in front of so much stupidity, disrespect and nonsense. I am so proud of the person he is — fair, a great teammate, with a good heart and a strong mind.

Julia firmly denied any infidelity before concluding that she must now focus on her health and well-being as a mother.

Rudy and Julia first confirmed their relationship in February 2026 when they announced they were expecting their first child together. Their son, Romeo, was born on May 6, 2026.

With Julia expecting their second child, co-parenting will remain a priority for both.

Rudy, focused on the Timberwolves’ playoff run, has not commented further on the breakup beyond his initial social media confirmation.

Julie and I are currently in the painful process of redefining our coparenting relationship. Being a father is one of the most profound and meaningful [experiences] I will get to live. It is one of my most important life purposes and will be so forever. I’m fully committed to keep supporting the well-being of all the people that I care about.
I’m asking everyone to please refrain from speculating and to respect our privacy in these difficult times.
