Color Commentator for the Sacramento Kings and basketball player Kayte Christensen spent her early days with her parents in Lakeview, Oregon.
Former Phoenix Mercury forward and current NBC Sports California analyst Kayte Christensen, 45, is used to being publicly spotted by Sacramento Kings fans. Still, her family is now introduced to a new news demographic: “Survivor” fans.
Especially when her husband, Joe Hunter, is the front-runner to win season 48 of the popular show, which airs its finale on May 21, 2026. Kayte said,
“You can’t really go in public,” . “Sacramento is a really small place and we go out in public and people know who I am and come up to us. I don’t think he expected how wildly popular the show is. I told him with sports, you wear a Kings or Suns or Mercury hat and everyone knows you’re a fan, but ‘Survivor’ fans, you don’t understand. “There’s way more people that watch it than you realize and people found out he was on the show when it was announced.”
She added that her husband didn’t know the show’s impact because he’s not very active on social media.
Her husband has been gaining support from fans because he joined the show to honor his late sister, Joanna, whom he lost to domestic violence.
He has also formed a close bond with fellow contestant Eva Erickson, who has autism. Kayte added,
“With everything that’s been happening with him and Eva and her autism and how their relationship has been so public on the show, I think the biggest change is the response he’s getting and hearing the stories,” “Whether it’s about autism or domestic violence because the last episode, they highlighted his sister’s story and what happened to her. The biggest change is being recognized and people want to share their story with him. “I’m so incredibly proud. It’s such a great representation of who he is as a human being, and from watching the show from the very beginning, I know how difficult it is to go out and play the way that he plays. His honest, trusting, loyal approach to the game.”
Christensen has also tried out for “Survivor” several times over the past few years after a casting director contacted her because he wanted former WNBA players on the show.

As 2026 comes to an end I cannot help but think about what this year brought to me. I feel so grateful to the lessons, gifts and opportunities it brought to make me a better more complete person. It began with therapy to be better co-parents and ended with our family back together. Being willing I open up, share pain, put in the work to heal and rediscovering the love we have for each other has been a truly healing process. I am so proud of us @joehunterucla. No one can know our journey but us. Here’s to 2026 and the blessings we have together and the journey we continue on and the people we are lucky are on it with us🍾🥂
