San José State University Football Coach Chandler Jones, 33, Passed Away, Leaving Behind His Parents, Mike And Simone!

Chandler followed in his father Mike Jones’s footsteps, both as a standout football player and later as a coach, with strong support from his mother throughout his career.

Chandler Xavier Jones tragically died in a vehicle-pedestrian collision on the Marina (90) Freeway in Los Angeles around 2 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, he was struck near the Centinela Avenue off-ramp and was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, early reports indicate it was a traffic incident involving a Toyota RAV4.

The coroner’s office has not yet released a formal determination of the manner or cause of death.

Chandler Jones’s Path Mirrored That Of His Father, Mike Jones!

Chandler Jones was born to parents Mike Jones and Simone on November 28, 1991, in Los Angeles, California.

His father, and respected coach. He was selected in the 6th round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.

Then, he played wide receiver at Tennessee State University, where he was known for his speed and reliable hands.

After his playing career, Mike transitioned into coaching and built a long-standing reputation in collegiate football, particularly for mentoring young athletes both on and off the field.

His influence shaped Chandler’s football journey, from playing at San José State to pursuing a coaching career.

Mike remained a guiding presence throughout Chandler’s life, serving as both a father and a professional role model.

On the flip side, Chandler’s mother remained largely out of the spotlight. But she played a vital role behind the scenes, offering support to her husband and children throughout their careers.

Recently, both of his parents have been mourning the devastating loss of their son.

Chandler Jones Was A Former San José State Standout And Coach!

He was a beloved figure in the football world, known for his dynamic presence both on the field and on the sidelines.

As a player, he starred at San Jose State University from 2010 to 2013, establishing himself as one of the program’s greatest receivers.

During his college career, he became the Spartans’ all-time leader in receptions (248) and receiving touchdowns (31), while ranking second in receiving yards with over 3,000.

His standout season came in 2013, when he caught 79 passes for 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns, earning first-team All-Mountain West honors.

He was affectionately nicknamed “Jet” for his speed and playmaking ability.

After college, Jones had brief stints with NFL teams including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, and Indianapolis Colts, mostly on practice squads.

He later joined the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League, first as a player in 2015 and then as a coach.

As a coach, he returned to San Jose State as a graduate assistant from 2017 to 2019, helping shape the next generation of players.

He then rejoined the Alouettes as an assistant defensive backs coach in 2026 and 2026, playing a key role in their Grey Cup championship run in 2026.

At the time of his passing, Chandler Jones was actively involved in coaching.

His sudden passing was not only a personal tragedy but also a significant loss to the football community.

The football world is mourning Jones with deep sorrow and heartfelt tributes.
