Sharlene Mawdsley, an Irish athlete specializing in the 400 meters and other sprint events, recently faced a devastating tragedy with the loss of her beloved father, Thomas Tucker Mawdsley.

European Championships gold medalist Sharlene Mawdsley shared a heartfelt Instagram story announcing the sudden and untimely passing of her father, Thomas ‘Tucker’ Mawdsley, on June 3rd, 2026.

She further expressed her gratitude to everyone who has been supportive of her and her family during this difficult phase and asked the media for privacy and understanding at this time.

Thomas’ passing occurred just two days after his daughter, Sharlene, competed in Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track event in Philadelphia.

There, a session-best time of 51.12 seconds, finishing sixth overall in the long sprints category and earning $15,000, making her parents proud.

While Sharlene Mawdsley and her family haven’t yet revealed the actual cause of the sudden and untimely demise of her beloved father, Thomas Mawdsley, many of her loved ones are extending their heartfelt condolences to her family.

Sharlene Mawdsley’s Father, Thomas ‘Tucker’ Mawdsley, Was A Native Of Newport, Tipperary, Ireland

Very little information about Sharlene’s late father, Thomas ‘Tucker’ Mawdsley’s professional life, is available as he preferred to maintain a low profile, despite being the father of a renowned sprinter.

However, he often shared Sharlene’s achievements on his Facebook account named Tom ‘Tucker’ Mawdsley, expressing his love and pride for his daughter’s athletic journey.

Furthermore, the late Thomas ‘Tucker’ Mawdsley was a native of Newport, Co. Tipperary, Ireland and lived with his family in Limerick, Ireland.

His indicates that he attended Hallhallow Mossnook, Manchester, and was an avid fan of the Manchester United football team.

In addition to Sharlene Mawdsley, left to cherish the life of late Thomas ‘Tucker’ Mawdsley are his loving partner, Louise Donovan (Sharlene’s mother), son Keith Mawdsley, daughter Andrea Mawdsley, mother Sally, grandchildren, and the whole family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tom, and brother, Billy. Thomas ‘Tucker’ Mawdsley’s will take place on Friday, 6th June, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Meehan’s Funeral Home, Newport, with Removal to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Newport.

Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, 7th June at 11:30 a.m., and burial will take place in Rockvale Cemetery, Newport.

Like Sharlene Mawdsley’s late father, Thomas, her mother, Louise Donovan, also prefers to maintain a low profile and hasn’t shared much about her professional life; however, she often shares updates about her family on social media, expressing her love for them.

Sharlene Mawdsley’s brother, , played football for Aisling Annacotty in the Limerick Junior League.
